Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a condition where excess lymphatic fluid accumulates in the tissues, causing swelling, discomfort, and a range of other symptoms. This happens when the lymphatic system is unable to adequately drain the fluid, leading to an accumulation in the affected area.
Lymphedema can be caused by a variety of factors, including surgery, radiation therapy, infection, trauma, or an inherited condition. It commonly affects the arms and legs, but can also occur in other parts of the body.
Centerline Clinic offers Lymphedema Care which comprises of therapies, including manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, exercise, and skincare.
Our Approach to Care
Assessment & Diagnosis
Our medical experts conduct an intensive physical assessment and tests to understand the underlying condition and its severity. It is also important to study the history and functional difficulties (if any) faced by the patient in developing a treatment plan. Also, we take into consideration the functional needs of a patient.
Treatment
Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized technique that helps move the lymphatic fluid out of the affected area, while compression therapy involves using bandages or specialized garments to compress the area and encourage drainage.
Exercises and posture correction
Exercise is also an important part of lymphedema treatment, as it helps improve lymphatic flow and reduce swelling.
Skin Care
Skincare is also important in preventing infection and reducing the risk of complications. This involves keeping the affected area clean and moisturized, and avoiding cuts, scratches, or other injuries that could lead to infection.
